Today more and more people are at some stage in their lives struggling to cope with the ever-increasing pressures that befall them. These pressures can be from home life, the working environment or just from our own internal feelings that we just cannot cope.

There are many schools of therapy and all try to help people through the difficult points in life. Like everything else the need for fast cures to our problems so that we can get on with life is one of many factors influencing our need for therapy treatment.

It is recognised through many studies that therapy does not always have to be long and drawn out and in fact in many cases can be effective in only a few treatment sessions. Martin Smith is a qualified therapist with the Human Givens Institute and uses the Human Givens approach to therapy. This approach takes the view that counselling and psychotherapy works best from a full understanding of what it is to be a human being. Not to use one theory or model but a full range of practices in ways to best assist people to become well and to operate at the best.

The Human Givens therapy encompasses all effective approaches to helping people. It is truly holistic, scientific, and practical. Although drawn from many areas of therapy one of its key contributors has been the work of Milton Erickson who was a leading American therapist until his death in 1980. Erickson was one of the most significant influences on the development of brief; solution focused therapy in modern times.

With Human Givens therapy progress is usually swift and effective and can help with recovery from anxiety disorders, depression, stress, addictive behaviour, panic attacks, phobias, traumatic memories and post traumatic stress disorder.
